Powhatan moves to rolling admissions after the January 31st priority deadline. Applications received after the priority deadline are processed in the order that they are received. Assessments and individual visit days are scheduled on an ongoing basis. Please contact the Admissions Office at 540.837.1009 to inquire about availability and to schedule a campus tour.

Applications for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are due in the Admissions Office by January 31, 2017. We are already taking applications for selected grades for the fall of 2017, please contact the Office of Admissions at 540.837.1009 to inquire about availability and schedule a campus tour.

 

For Pre-Kindergarten (4)

1. Complete the online application for admission.
2. Schedule a Pre-K assessment day in February with the Office of Admissions.

 

For Kindergarten:

1. Complete the online application for admission.
2. Submit a letter of recommendation from the preschool teacher or preschool director.  (Letter of Recommendation K )
3. Schedule a kindergarten assessment day in January or early February at Powhatan School.

 

For Grades 1-7:

1. Complete the online application for admission.
2. Submit to Powhatan School the official transcripts and test scores from your child’s current school.  (Release of Student Records Form)
3. Submit a letter of recommendation from your child’s current teacher. (Grades 1_7_Letter of Recommendation)
4. Schedule an on-campus assessment day at Powhatan School.

 

Admission decisions will be mailed no later than March 4, 2017. New student enrollment contracts and deposits are due back by April 9, 2017.

Admissions Calendar:

 

1. Application Deadline

Applications for kindergarten through grade eight are due in the Admissions office by January 31, 2017. Applications received after this date will be accepted, but availability will determine the extent of the assessment process.

 

2. Parent Tours

3. Student Visits and Admission Assessments

Pre-K & Kindergarten: Candidates will participate in a morning of simulated kindergarten with other pre-kindergarten age children in January and February. Candidates will be individually assessed during the course of this visit.  Assessments after this date will be performed on an individual basis, if space is available.

Grade 1: Candidates will be evaluated on an individual basis during a full-day class visit that will be scheduled between January and February. Assessments after the application deadline will be performed on an individual basis, if space is available.

Grades 2 – 8: Candidates will be administered grade-level assessments during a full-day class visit that will be scheduled between January and February. Assessments after this date will be performed on an individual basis, if space is available. Official copy of school records must be submitted to the admissions office prior to the assessment date.

4. Open Houses

Open House & Shadow Day Options: We encourage prospective families to spend a school day with us through our Open House & Shadow Day programs. Students are immersed in the classroom for a day with their peers, while parents visit with administrators teachers and students through a variety of programs.  RSVP required.

Open House & Shadow Day:  Friday, November 4, 2016   8:15 a.m. – noon

5. Financial Aid Application Deadline

In order to be considered for financial aid for the 2016-2017 school year, School and Student Service for Financial Aid must receive your application no later than February 15, 2017. Additionally, the Financial Aid Committee requires that you submit a copy of the application you filed with SSS (PFS Form) and a copy of your 1040 tax return with attachments for the previous year. Applications received by SSS after this date or applications received without supporting documents may be excluded from being considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year. 6. Admission and Financial Aid Notification Dates
