Welcome from the Director of Admissions:
Powhatan School was established in 1948 by a dedicated group of parents of elementary-aged children who were committed to providing an enriching and rigorous atmosphere for learning. At that time, the school was located just down the road in a small, red schoolhouse in Millwood, Va. More than sixty years later Powhatan is a vibrant and bustling hub for students and faculty alike.
I hope you will take some time to discover the many wonderful opportunities that exist here at Powhatan. I encourage you to spend some time here on our website to learn more about the school’s mission, pedagogical approach, and school culture. Browse our new school blog, the Powhatan Pulse, and learn about our people and what is going on in our classrooms.
This Admissions section serves as your resource for learning more about the inquiry and application process, and is designed to help guide you in your decision-making regarding Powhatan School and independent schools in general. Of course the best way for you to get a sense of the educational opportunities that we provide for families across the region is to visit with us. I can think of no better way for you to get to know us than by spending a morning to explore our dynamic campus.
But don’t take my word for it, stop by and walk the grounds with us.
Sincerely,Michael A. Hatfield
Director of Admissions
