Dear Parents,

Thankful is the word for this season, and here at Powhatan, we all have so many blessings!    I hope you will indulge my “poetic spirit” as I wrote these words after one of my many “walk-arounds” on our vibrant campus.  We are a joyful community and each student, faculty, staff and parent help to express this joy in all we do.

‘TWAS THE WEEK BEFORE WINTER BREAK AT POWHATAN

‘Twas the week before Winter Break,

And on campus and grounds,

Students are learning and excitement abounds!!!

Fall report cards display, and all will agree,

Our students work hard – getting all A’s and some B’s!!

Winter family traditions like Diwali, Hanukkah, Yule and Christmas are shared,

By reading, writing, cooking and festive music prepared.

Each teacher looks back on the fall with delight,

Feeling confident students are “learning for life”.

And the Head in her schedule, visits classes each day,

Dancing, experimenting, hearing stories and speaking French and Spanish – Ole’!

Powhatan traditions are found far and wide,

Carol Sing, Buddy Lunch, Hat and Mitten Tree – all collide.

And you will hear us exclaim as we head on our ways,

“We look forward to winter and more Powhatan Days!!”

WE WISH ALL OUR FAMILIES A RESTFUL AND REJUVENATIVE WINTER BREAK!

Sincerely,

Sue Scarborough
Head of School

PS  On one of my walks through campus, I ran into Lee Slavin, who is piloting a project in her class that is very exciting.  Please tune into my December podcast above to hear all about it!
