8.  Macbeth

The annual Shakespeare Play has been a cornerstone of the eighth grade experience at Powhatan for more than 40 years. 7.  Balto Newscast

The Balto Newscast was a terrific example of innovation in the classroom. The second grade team decided to try out the green screen and the ability to place students in any location or time period. The students stood in front of the green screen to record and read their scripts for their part of the news broadcast. (They wore heavy jackets if they were going to be standing in a blizzard for their report, or they brought along dog food and dog bowls for their commercial to help sell their product) Learn more about this project: CLICK HERE.

6.  Blandy Farm Field Trip

Everybody loves Blandy Farm! It’s the first field trip for Kindergarteners and it is always a special adventure. Blandy Experimental Farm is a 700-acre University of Virginia research facility located in Clarke County and is the home of the State Arboretum of Virginia. The educational team over at Blandy Farm provides a terrific backpack program that is highly engaging for our little adventurers as we explore nature.
