8. Hour of Code: Big & Little Buddies

Powhatan School participated in the global Hour of Code event in December. We had tons of cool projects going on at every grade level to complement Powhatan’s computer science curriculum.

Powhatan students coded for a combined total of 370 hours and students coded in the following programming languages — color coding patterns, Block, Javascript, and Python. Add into the mix 28 parent volunteers and the program was a massive success!

The Hour of Code Event turned out to be a great leadership opportunity for the older students and a terrific all around community building experience. The activities included some buddy opportunities where older students teamed up with younger students throughout the week. Mrs. Miller outlined the project in this video.

7. Blandy Farm Field Trip

We love field trips! Blandy is a 700-acre University of Virginia research facility located in Clarke County and is the home of the State Arboretum of Virginia. This year, kindergarten and first grade explored three different habitats on the Blandy Farm campus:

In the time period from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019, our YouTube page videos received approximately 79,1518 views for a total of 93,258 minutes watched. These include new and previously created videos. During that same time period, we created a total of 45 videos ranging from experiences in pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. Stay tuned all week long as we release the Top-10 countdown of the most viewed videos from the past academic year!
