Each grade, from kindergarten through eighth grade, performs a class play during the school year. The eighth grade class play takes the form of the highly anticipated annual Shakespeare production. Classroom teachers ask for parent volunteers to help with these productions, and of course, parents are encouraged to attend. There are at least two performances of each class play.
The eighth grade Shakespeare play is a tradition that goes back four decades at Powhatan School. The performance of and preparation for a Shakespeare production is a terrific example of fostering 21st Century Skills through:
- Collaboration & Teamwork
- Communication Skills
- Critical Thinking
We’ve explored many of these 21st Century Skills both directly and indirectly with a series of blog posts. We hope you enjoy the journey of learning through Shakespeare in the posts below just as much as you enjoy watching the performance. Click on an image below to learn more about each activity!
