Welcome Home: Evan Robb ’80 announced as new Upper School Director

Published On: April 13th, 2022 | Categories: Food for Thought |

It’s with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the soon-to-be new Upper School Director for Powhatan School. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated staff of Powhatan, students, and you, our parents. My start date will be July 1.

I walked into Powhatan as a first-grade student in 1972 and graduated in 1980. I have always stayed connected with Powhatan and because of my fond memories hoped to become part of its supportive community again. The opportunity to return home to Powhatan is humbling, exciting, and energizing.

My educational career has given me many opportunities: leading schools, speaking, and writing books. These opportunities have elevated my belief in students, the importance of communication, collaboration, relationship building, and working in partnership with you, the parents of Powhatan students. In addition, my career has given me a deep respect for the upper school years as students transition into young adults through exciting learning opportunities and building confidence in themselves as learners, as they prepare for high school and beyond, knowing that we learn not for school but for life.

I have the same opinion about Powhatan I had many years ago as a student. Powhatan is an amazing school with dedicated teachers who provide an excellent education and create enduring experiences that each student will always remember. I will begin this job with respect for Powhatan’s past, present, and the many collaborative and inclusive opportunities that can shape its future.

I look forward to getting to know you and your children. Please be on the look-out for scheduled open-house meet-and-greets, but also know that I will be reaching out to each family for individual meetings this summer and in the early fall.

In partnership,
Evan Robb
