Dear Parents,

My on-going quest for positive activities at Powhatan has led me back to our cap collection project which was started by Powhatan third graders in 2018. Those students are now in fourth grade and the cap project is complete for this year. I sat down with several of the students and third grade teacher Mrs. Slavin to reflect on the importance of this project and what the students gained from participating in it from beginning to end. Throughout our discussion not only did the students show commitment to stewardship of our environment, they also exemplified their confidence of having the skills to tackle any problem that they may encounter in the future. These students experienced a level of excellence that can only be reached through hard work and dedication. Those are some pretty impressive learning experiences for fourth graders!

The Mind the Cap project was terrific example of our school community rallying around a cause, and fits perfectly into our Positively Powhatan theme. Please take a few minutes to listen to my podcast about this meaningful project and watch the documentary at the bottom of the page put together by Mrs. Slavin.
