Buddy week has been a resounding success!
Walking through campus all week, I’ve just loved watching all of the different Buddy Activities in action. I think there is something very special about younger children working alongside older students.
This leads to wonderful leadership opportunities for Big Buddies, as they help their younger counterparts. But you can also see the confidence grow in the faces of those Little Buddies as they work with their new big friend – they know they belong.
Fifth grade, in particular, is a special year for buddies. This is the year where they become the Big Buddies for the first time. So I was excited to get to work on a special activity with fifth grade and their Little Buddies in first grade this week in the Nancy St. Clair Talley Corner. Learn more about Mrs. Talley’s lasting legacy at Powhatan School in this video:
Building relationships through Buddies contributes to the social and emotional well-being of each member of our Powhatan community, and we feel strongly that this is an essential part of all children’s education.
The Buddy Program really is… Positively Powhatan.
