Bio: I am a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. For two years, I taught third grade in Huntington, West Virginia, then moved to the Shenandoah Valley to continue teaching third grade for another two years in Warren County. Though this is only my fifth year teaching in a public school setting, I have held various teaching roles since I was 16 years old!
My favorite part of being an educator is spending time with kids. I also love the challenge of stringing together lessons with threads of cross-curricular instruction and project based learning that play toward student interests, strengths, and talents. I’m committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment where students can try new things, make mistakes, voice their opinions, take risks, and grow.
Hobbies: I am a recent newlywed, and I’m loving every minute of it! Some of my favorite things to do include cooking, hiking, singing in the shower, and taking long drives to see faraway friends and family.
Favorite Quotes: “The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof. What I want is so simple I almost can’t say it: elementary kindness. Enough to eat, enough to go around. The possibility that kids might one day grow up to be neither the destroyers nor the destroyed. That’s about it. Right now I’m living in that hope, running down its hallway and touching the walls on both sides.” —Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
