Bio: Before coming to Powhatan as an educational consultant, tutor, and substitute, Lynda Hickey worked as the Director of a special needs private day school serving students with disabilities and intense behavioral disorders from 17 VA school divisions. Prior to that, she was the Assistant Deputy Director of Education for the VA Department of Juvenile Justice in Richmond and PK-12 Director of Instruction and Coordinator for Gifted Services for Winchester Public Schools. She has also served as an elementary gifted resource teacher, elementary teacher, and middle school teacher. In addition, she teaches as an adjunct professor for Shenandoah University and in the past for the University of Virginia. Throughout her career, Lynda has been a teacher of teachers and students, supporting and encouraging them to reach high expectations. Lynda lives in Reston, VA with her dog, Finlea. Finlea became part of the Powhatan community, attending classes since she was 2 months old.
